MSD, Inc.’s Achievements at the ABC Ohio Valley Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards

We at MSD, Inc. are thrilled to share our accomplishments from the recent ABC Ohio Valley Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards. It was a night of recognition and celebration, highlighting our commitment to excellence and community.

Eagle Award for the Charles Young House Restoration

The restoration of the Charles Young House was not just a construction project; it was a journey into history. As Project Manager Johnathan Hess recounts, the challenges were substantial, from handling ancient plumbing systems to ensuring the integrity of historical structures. The Charles Young House, once home to a pioneering African American colonel and a station on the Underground Railroad, demanded more than just construction expertise; it required sensitivity to its profound historical significance.

The project began with intricate groundwork, including the installation of modern amenities like an elevator in a house built in the 1800s. The unpredictable weather and the challenges of working within the confines of a historic structure tested our team’s resilience and creativity. Innovative solutions, such as using old chimneys for plumbing vents to maintain the house’s original aesthetic, were devised to honor the past while building for the future.

This project not only restored a significant landmark but also paid homage to Colonel Charles Young’s legacy, making our Eagle Award at the ABC Ohio Valley Chapter Excellence in Construction Awards a particularly proud achievement for Team MSD.

Additional Recognitions: Merit and Safety Awards

Alongside our Eagle Award, we were honored with a Merit Award for our work on the MVCTC project, which showcased our capability to handle complex educational facilities with precision and dedication.

Safety is paramount at MSD, Inc., and receiving the Platinum Safety Award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards on every project. This recognition reaffirms that our safety protocols not only protect our team members but also ensure the efficiency and success of our operations.

Community Outreach Award: MSD, Inc.’s Give to Grow Program

Our commitment to community service was also recognized with the Community Outreach Award for our Give to Grow program. Spearheaded by Victoria Sherrock, our Community Outreach Coordinator, Give to Grow is our way of giving back to the community that supports us.

In the past year, Give to Grow has significantly expanded its initiatives, including the Victory Project, Journey League, and our new partnership with the Pink Ribbon Good Group. Our efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of many, from providing meals and support to Dayton’s youth to supporting those battling cancer.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate these accolades, our focus remains on the future. With plans to expand our community initiatives and continue our tradition of excellence in construction, we are excited about what lies ahead. These awards are not just recognitions of past achievements but also inspirations for future endeavors.

Thank you to the ABC Ohio Valley Chapter for this honor, and a big thank you to every team member at MSD, Inc. whose hard work and dedication made these awards possible. Here’s to continuing our journey of excellence and impact!

WPAFB Sensors Lab

Wright-Patt Air Force Base sought contractors to renovate and add onto the Sensors Lab. The HVAC portion of the project was over $13 million.

  • MSD served as the Design Assist Contractor in conjunction with Heapy Engineering for this project. In collaborating with General Contractor, Butt Construction, MSD provided Design Assist solutions for the following:
    • A large, anechoic chamber
    • An outdoor range
    • Multiple, Class-100 clean rooms
    • A three-story office building addition with DCID 6-9 requirements on many of the rooms

WPAFB Chilled Water System

The chilled water system at a high-security building on the Air Force Base was undersized and unable to keep up with demand. The facility could not operate without chilled water due to the amount of information servers in the building, and the general nature of the building itself. The entire upgrade project would need to be completed with minimal shut down time at the building. HVAC portion of this project was over $3 million.

  • MSD worked in collaboration with Diaz Construction to complete the system upgrades on time and on budget with minimal shutdowns or disruption to the facility operations.

LJB, Inc.

LJB, Inc. was renovating their Miamisburg, OH office and wanted to incorporate energy-saving upgrades.

  • MSD provided Design Build services in tandem with Greensleeves Energy Solutions, a specialist in geothermal systems.
  • MSD and Greensleeves installed a new geothermal HVAC system with open and closed loops. In addition, MSD design and installed the plumbing portion of the renovation.
