At MSD, expertise is built through experience. Mark Schwarz’s career shows how hands-on knowledge strengthens the systems, processes, and technology that support MSD’s teams every day.
Mark’s journey into HVAC began in high school, when a mathematics teacher shared a summer job opportunity with a local HVAC company. He spent two summers helping install and remove air conditioners, furnaces, and boilers at residential homes, laying the foundation for his career.
Over 22 years with an HVAC company in Cincinnati, Mark gained experience in operations, accounting, dispatch, and fieldwork. This allowed him to understand the needs and workflows of team members across every part of the business. He eventually became Operations Manager, overseeing service and project operations and managing IT systems, drawing on his college studies in computer and database management.
Afterward, Mark joined a software company, helping HVAC, plumbing, and electrical companies across the country implement new business management systems. This experience gave him insight into leadership and operational strategies across different organizations, reinforcing how effective systems and processes can help team members succeed.

At MSD, Mark applies this experience to design systems, manage IT architecture, support cybersecurity, and identify opportunities for innovation and automation. “Technology only delivers real value when people adopt and use it effectively,” he says. “My focus is ensuring our teams have the right platforms, reliable data, and secure systems to work efficiently.”
Mark stays current with industry changes, attending association meetings in Cincinnati and Dayton and reviewing trusted publications and online resources. Daily challenges and problem-solving with colleagues motivate him, especially seeing team members achieve goals they didn’t think were possible.
Having worked in the field, the office, and leadership roles, Mark understands the challenges team members face. This perspective helps him create systems that make work more efficient and effective.
With MSD’s 40-year foundation and a focus on continuous improvement, Mark is optimistic about the future. He often reflects on something Johnny Stewart, the CEO, says: “What are you waiting for?” It’s a reminder to keep moving forward and always look for ways to improve.
